Yuna and her boyfriend are on different lanes
Music Reviews / /
Yuna's latest album 'Chapters' is a real piece of art in every way possible. Check out our review of her latest single 'Lanes'.
Why do keep tellin' me you're self-destructing?
I'm gettin' tired of your lies and your excuses
Cause I see your photos in the club
Havin' fun and litted up
Someone famous on the couch
You don't answer when I call
Can't talk now cause it's too loud
What am I doin' with this trauma?
If this is love, I don't want it
If this is love, you can keep it
You call this love, you don't respect it
If this is love, why am I hurting?..."
This is how Yuna opens up on her latest single. 'Lanes' is hypnotic, atmospheric, mid-tempo, 90s inspired R&B song that evokes deep feeling and puts you right in that re-questioning mode, where you are not sure where your love relationship is going and if you can pass over the cheating or the possibility of it.
For the duration of time I was working on that album, I'd just got out of a relationship, and you can't help it. If you're a songwriter, you need to write, and that's your outlet. It's a story about what heartbreak looks like...It's also a reflection of my past relationship." - Yuna told ELLE US.
The song was written by Yuna herself with the help of Robin Braun & Paul Salva. It also comes with a nicely packed video, directed by Brian Oh. In the visual for 'Lanes' we see in reverse order of events how Yuna got her boyfriend cheating on her, getting into fight and how she pours her pain into tears because of it.
At the end of the day
While you are with me
We're on different lanes
Chasing different things..."
Take a listen and let us know how you like it. Also do not forget to snatch a copy of Yuna's LP 'Crushes' including 'Lanes' and well as 'Crush', her love duet with Usher.
