DIY: Crystal Soaps
Do it yourself / /
These crystal soaps are a great gift idea. They can also find their place nested with bath salts in the bathroom, although their cuteness would probably make you feel sorry for using them.
Here is what you will need:
- clear soap base
- color for cosmetics
– soap molds in shape of circles
- rubbing alcohol in sprayer, which will help the layers of the soap stick together
- essential oils--the one you prefer
Step one: Heat the soap just until it is melted (overheating can make it brittle). Than allow it to cool off for about a minute, then stir in up to two teaspoons of your favorite skin-safe essential oil.
Step two: Spray each mold with rubbing alcohol and then fill ⅓ of each mold with this clear melted soap base. Allow it to make a tick skin on the surface for about 5 minutes.
Step three: Add a small pinch of the color and another one of glitter to the melted soap. If it is too harden you would need to heat it again. Stir well to break up any clumps. Pour a second layer of soap into the same molds, leaving about ⅓ of each mold empty for the last layer. Again spray with alcohol. Leave it to harden for another 5 minutes.
Step four: Add another pinch of the color to the melted base and stir well. Pour the melted soap into your mold to fill the last ⅓ of each mold. Spray the surface to remove any air bubbles on the surface. Place the molds into freezer for 20 minutes and keep the remaining soap base.
Step five: Put the soaps out from the molds onto a cutting board. Using a sharp knife slice each of the soaps into 6 rectangles. Don’t worry if the shapes arn’t uniform in shape or size. The differences will make the final product even better.
Step six: Slice the top of each rectangles at several different angles to make it look like a crystal. Try slicing at different angles and depths—but be careful of your fingers!
Step seven: Reheat the remaining soap base until melted. Add one more pinch of color and glitter. Then pour a tiny layer of soap into a mold. This layer with act like glue on which you would place the crystals. Repeat the procedure until you have crystals that can be used.
Step eight: Put the molds into the freezer for 20 minutes and release the soaps form the molds.
