This easy-to-do DIY project will make your old suitcases that you hide in the basement stylish and stunning once again.
DIY project for decorating your home are always best thing to do. They give you the opportunity to use things you have around the house and upgrade your home interior with some stylish crafts.
So the time has come to use those already stored and unusable suitcases in interesting and creative wall. Those old suitcases can be hanged on your living room wall as posh yet vintage shelves and you will love every sight of them.
For this DIY project you will need:
- Old suitcases
- Pieces of wood (approximately 20x60cm per suitcase)
- Crepe tape
- A screw-driver
And let’s go. First you will need to remove the inside linen of the suitcase. This is usually easy to do thing, just find a corner and pull it off until you remove it all.
Decide the desired width, measure it and mark it. Then use the crepe tape in order to know which part that you will cut will be used for the shelves. Over the crepe track mark the line which you will follow while cutting. Make sure you use hacksaw because usually suitcases have metal track placed on the endings.
Make a wooden panel that will serve as support so the suitcase does not bend and will also be your base for the wall hanging. In order to do this you have to measure the inside of the cut out piece of suitcase and then cut out the wood with approximately same dimensions, so it fits the suitcase inside.
If the width of the wooden panel does not give you enough place for the screws, make sure you add side pieces of wood on your wooden panel, just as it is shown on the photos.
Once you are done, place the wooden panel on the wall and drill couple of holes on it and on the wall. Place the plugs and hang the wooden panel on the wall with the help of the screws.
The last step is to place the suitcase parts on the wooden panels and make sure to use screws in order to make the whole 'shelve' more stable.
Let us know how it turns out.
