Diet Mistakes That Lead to Hair and Nails Problem
Health & Beauty / /
When we talk about foods we should or shouldn’t eat in order to have a good skin, we may forget that just as our skin, our nails and hair can be affected by the foods we choose to eat. Hair can became thin and start to fall out and nails can become dry and brittle.
Similar diet choices can affect these two in the same way and that is not so strange because they are both made from the same protein called keratin.
“Both are a barometer of how well (or how poorly) you’re feeding the body,” says dermatologist Jessica Wu, M.D., author of “Feed Your Face” and skin and beauty expert for Daily Glow, “as well as your overall health.”
Of course, other life style activities can have the same effect like bad foods choices. For instance take smoking as an example for bad influence both for the health and your nails and hair. That is because smoking can reduce circulation and may cut down on the amount of biotin in the blood. (Biotin is often added to products for hair and nails because it seems to strengthen the both).
Here are some foods you need to avoid if you have this problem:
- “Some fish contain high levels of mercury, and high levels of mercury can lead to hair loss,” – points out the dermatologist herself.
– Eating sweets can cause the blood sugar to spike. Also, when the body pumps out insulin in response to the rise in blood sugar, in the same time it raises the levels of androgen which is a male hormone. This can be bad because this hormone can sometimes make the hair follicle shrink in both women and men.
-like white breads, pastas and cakes.
Too Much Vitamin A
-only in ultra-high doses.
Too Little Protein
-since both hair and nails are made from protein it is obvious that we need to eat more protein to just make them stronger. Have in mind that protein doesn’t only come in meat; it can also come in beans, eggs, tofu, spinach and many more.
Too Little Iron and Zinc
-according to Reader’s Digest the white flecks in your nails can indicate that your diet is lacking in zinc. You can find zinc and iron together in some seafood and red meat. Both of them are essential to keratin formation, so to avoid nail and hair problems challenge you in eating more foods that consist them.
