Watermelon is a perfectly refreshing summer fruit, ideal for losing weight because it consists mostly of water.
Watermelon is rich in lycopene, an antioxidant that gives the specific red color (just as with tomatoes) and reduces the risk of prostate cancer. It also protects against heart disease, cervical and ovarian cancer, and is believed to improve fertility.
Despite having large amounts of vitamins A, B and C, watermelons are rich in water (about 92 percent) and help regulating body weight as they do not contain much calories. More precisely, 100 grams of watermelon contains 10 percent sugar, 90 percent water, 20 milligrams of beta-carotene, 0.5 milligrams of iron, 7 milligrams of calcium, 10 milligrams of phosphorus, and about 20 calories.
It acts as a natural tonic
For clean skin, use a watermelon toner that will nourish and refresh the skin. It will make the stains on the face less visible and will stop any inflammatory processes.
Place a little watermelon juice on a cotton wipe and put it on a cleaned face. Rinse it when it's dried.
You can also make a toner of half an orange and watermelon pieces that you will apply daily on a cleaned face. Keep the rest of the mixture in the refrigerator where it can stand up to 5 days. After rinsing, do not forget to moisturize the face with a face cream.
Perfect in concealing wrinkles
It is rich in vitamin C and lycopene, a component that slows down the aging process, making the skin flecks and all the scars less visible.
• Apply watermelon pulp on the face as if applying a mask or simply rub a little watermelon on the skin of the face and let it for 15 minutes. Repeat it during the summer.
• To enjoy the benefits of the watermelon during the winter, remove the rind from it, cut it into cubs and keep them in freezer. Before washing, rub your face with a cube of the rind.
For shiny body skin
The watermelon is rewarded with ingredients that can make your skin shiny and healthy. If you eat it, you will clean your body from the outside as well as from the inside.
- If you have oily skin, put the watermelon and yogurt in a blender, and use the mixture as a facial mask. If you have dry skin, simply replace the yogurt with bananas.
- If you want to get the most health benefits from the watermelon, do not keep it in the refrigerator during the season. Although it is more attractive and offers more refreshment if it is cooled, it will lose up to 40 percent of lycopene this way.
