What causes winter depression?
Health & Beauty / /
As winter comes days are getting shorter, outside is cold, the streets are abandoned, and people spend most of their time in their homes. But what actually causes winter depression?
You are not active enough
This can often be the cause for bad mood. Physical activity give us energy. Try to stay active even during the cold days, go skating, running, walking or if you are keen to more extreme sports try skiing, mountain climbing, do whatever you want. Do not let the weather discourage you. You will feel much better than just sitting in front of a TV and not doing anything fun.
Not eating healthy food
During the holidays, we almost always avoid standard healthy meals and mainly eat caloric and fatty food. This can cause depression due to a frequent increase in weight. Try at least during the day before the great feast to eat fruits, vegetables, proteins and antioxidants.
Concern about the finances
December and January are the months when we spend the most money, buying winter clothes, spending money for gifts, food for holidays, and so on. Not to mention the costs of electricity and heating. What you can do in order not to overspend is to determine the exact budget for the celebration of Christmas, purchase of gifts and the preparation of the festive dinner table.
You drink more than usual
If you drink more during the night than it is expected that in the morning you will feel very bad. In those cases the reason for your dissatisfaction is excessive alcohol consumption, which at this time of the year is often the case.
You are nostalgic
Holidays are a favorite time of year for children, but adults can be a little sad and nostalgic. Usually during the holidays we remember those who are no longer with us.
You have unrealistic expectations
Life's happiness is mainly down to some expectations that can often disappoint us. Relax and try to enjoy. Do not strive for perfection, focus on the present.
