Directioners, get ready. Another former member of One Direction has officially gone solo. Check out our review of Niall Horan's debut single.
While the world still mourns the unexpected hiatus of one of the most successful boy bands of our time, One Direction, the boys are slowly but surely placing their new projects out there. First one was to break out of the group was Zayn Malik, whose debut record was highly successful and showed us that he has made the right decision.
Since then, the boys released a new album, and announced that they will be going on a break. We were teased with some snippets and announcements for solo projects, but now we get to enjoy the first, official, solo debut tune from Niall Horan.
'This town' is a pop tune with notable guitar riffs, which makes it perfect for this time of the year. It is chill yet uplifting, and it is about what most of us would define as 'real music', which is instrument sounds, lyrics and vocals without much of post-production polishing.
The song's lyrics are about the inability to move on due the fact that you still love someone that is not in love with you anymore. Niall sings his soul out, showing us a tender side of man's heart, a heart that can't heal because there is just too much love stuffed in there.
Overall, the song is a pretty solid single. It might not be the big lead single, but it is a perfect buzz single that marks the trasition from boy band to going solo. We don’t know if Niall and his team will decide to do a bit of that storytelling with a music video, but even if they just let the song 'breathe' for a while, it will find its way to the right fan base.
In the meantime, take a listen of the acoustic rendition of the song that Niall did for 1 Mic, 1 Take.
