Birdy's heart-breaking Words
Music Reviews / /
Birdy's new single 'Words' might not be perfect for the summer time, but it will for sure find it's way to your heart. Check out our review.
Birdy's third official single from her latest album 'Beautiful lies' is here. 'Words' has been chosen to follow up 'Keeping your head up' and 'Wild horses'.
'Beautiful lies' was praised by the critics as the most mature Birdy album so far, with powerful lyrics that reflect of the growth of the songstress herself.
'Words' was written by Birdy and Conrad Sewell and was produced by Al Shux. The song fits the signature sound that Birdy carefully treasures, a mix of indie pop and folk, with barouque pop elements. The piano cords are there as well, and the mid-tempo ballad strikes your heart with heart breaking lyrics.
All the things you hide for me
I accept them
But I need you next to me
If I can't hold you now
Keep thinking that you might not come around
I have no words, I have no words to say
If I can't change your mind
Keep thinking, is this our last goodbye?
You say it first, you say it first to me..."
The song touches the moment of a love relationship going towards its very end. Both lovers know it down inside that is's going nowhere, yet both of them are still not ready to leave it all behind.
With the first couple beats the song sounds like something that Foxes would sing, but as soon as you hear Birdy's soothing vocal, you know it's that little girl with powerhouse, soulful voice.
The single release comes along with a mystic music video directed by Bison. We get to see beautiful shots of Birdy in three dreamy settings, all by herself, while we have nature elements like fog, fire and wind, in light and dark hours of the day.
Anyway take a look and let us know if this is going straight to your 'sad songs' playlist.
