Delta Goodrem has one more 'Heavy' song for you
Music Reviews / /
Delta Goodrem continues promoting her last album 'Wings of the wild'. Check out our review of her latest single 'Heavy'.
'Heavy' is fifth overall single taken off the highly successful album (at least in Australia) 'Wings of the wild'. The song is one more incredibly soulful, intense, emotional ballad in which Delta's voice sounds raw, yet mature. The emotional lyrics of the song were incredibly well translated into a tender, yet deep, meaningful song.
Written by Delta herself and Martin Johnson (the front man of Boys Like Girls), the ballad's production was handled by Martin as well. It has the signature sound of Delta Goodrem, yet as the song progresses towards the end the melody becomes louder, the baseline is faster and it reaches a peak with some incredible vocal delivery by Delta.
I fought a battle, I fought a war
I felt the rain on my face
Sometimes to find what you're looking for
You've gotta learn from your worst mistakes
I made a wish on a satellite
That I mistook for a star
Guess when you build up to break down
You find out who you really are
How did it all get so heavy
I used to stand up so tall
There's only so much I can carry
Before I fall
And they tell me "girl you're so lucky"
"You've got the world in your hands"
But you know the world gets so heavy
You don't understand
And that's heavy..."
Lyrically, the song is about learning from our mistakes and getting out of our troubles stronger and braver than before. The focus is on the weight or the heavy-ness of our mistakes.
The song's promotion comes with a music video. Directed by Matt Sharp, the black and white visual sees Delta singing the song in front of a simple, brick wall. Once again the focus in on her facial expressions, the lyrics and the song itself.
