Fantasia has released her long awaited album 'The definition of...' and it sounds amazing. Check out our first listening review of it.
The long awaited and teased album of Fantasia finally got released. We have previously reviewed couple of the singles that preceded the album such as 'Ugly', 'So Blue' and 'Sleeping with the one you love'. And going in the same direction, Fantasia bares her soul on her new record.
Skipping the four singles that were released before we got to hear the complete record, there are seven brand new songs that complete the creative direction and perfectly fit into the concept of this re-invented Fantasia which leads to a more intimate and personal record.
The album opens with 'Crazy' which is a upbeat R&B infused song with a touch of retro vibe. Than 'No time for it' follows, which was the first song Fantasia released as a part of this project. After that we slow down with 'So blue' and 'When I met you'. The later one sounds like 90s R&B ballad in some amazingly fresh way. 'Sleeping with the one I love' is the highlight of the record, with its soundtrack sound and the epic-ness vibe that is hard to overcome.
'Stay up' on the other hand is maybe the most experimental song on the album, and frankly it sounds more like an intro than an actual album track. 'Ugly' is the second best track, it is emotional, empowering, delicate and powerful. 'Wait for you' is a subtle dance jam that with the proper remix can easily turn into a club banger. Out of the club, we are waiting for the sunrise on a roller coaster ride together with Aloe Black. 'Lonely legend' sounds like it is Tina Turner 'Proud Mary' little sister. It is a slower, but it has that beat and the hooks sound like this would be a perfect song for a duet on 'VH1 Divas'. 'I made it' featuring Tye Tribbett closes the album in a more cheerful way with retro islandic sound.
You can listen to all of the album's tracks on Fantasia's Vevo account. Check it out and let us know what you think.
