Is Lady Gaga giving us Perfect Illusion?
Music Reviews / /
Lady Gaga's long awaited comeback day finally came but it seems that critics don't like it. Check out our review of 'Perfect illusion'.
The comeback of Lady Gaga was long awaited but it does not seem to meet the expectations. At least the music critics don't think that way.
'Perfect illusion' was written by Gaga herself with the help of Kevin Parker and Mark Ronson, and the team also produced the trach along with BloodPop. Now, all this amazing artists creating a single tune should be really good. Unfortunately, the disco-pop-rock song sounds a bit too familiar of Madonna's earlier work (80s circa). On the other hand it is a throwback to Gaga's beginnings, her gigs as Stephanie Germanota, with a lot more rock vibe, raw vocals, and a lot less of the 'polished' mainstream image Gaga had.
It also does not praise her vocals in a good way. The song has that stadium vibe, and it is performed in such way, but we have been used to Gaga's fine touches and modulations, her powerful vocal and amazing range and the song sing sounds like it was sung by someone with aspirations to be a music star on a Saturday karaoke night.
The good thing is that the song sounds like nothing that is currently being played on mainstream radio. If you think that 'Uptown funk' had the same first listening vibe, the song might be destined for a greater things.
Anyway, take a listen and let us know what you think.
