Nelly Furtado is up for a ride

Nelly Furtado is back with a brand new single and an album announcement. Check out our review of 'Islands of me'.
A decade has passed since Nelly Furtado ruled the charts and was present (in a way) at every club and home party with the hits from her most successful album to date 'Loose'. The album spawned six hit singles, some of which even managed to top the charts for some time, while others were always there, present in the background as a rock solid support for a great album. Since then, Nelly has been releasing music every couple years, but unfortunately she did not managed to repeat the same success.
Now she is back with a 'freshly squeezed' new tune, 'Islands of me'. Before getting all hyped up, you should know that it’s not quite the 'Maneater' of 2016. But after a long break, it might be a great buzz single. 'Islands of me' sounds as an updated production of a track that should have been part of Nelly's debut album. It is still mainly focused on mainstream pop, the inevitable electronica elements, but it is more on the indie side. Putting it simple it sounds like The Killers' song remixed by Clean Bandit and Calvin Harris Together.
The song was produced by John Congleton and Dev Hynes, and was premiered with a live performance during a kickoff party at the NYFW.
We still do not know when a proper lead single will be out, but the good news is that the new album named 'The Ride' is due to be released in spring 2017.
In the meantime take a listen of 'Islands of me' and let us know what you think.
