Yuna's emotional new video for 'Poor Heart'
Music Reviews / /
The Malaysian singer dropped a new music video for one of the bonus tracks of her latest album. Check out our review.
We fell in love with her collaboration with Usher on 'Crush' and the follow up single 'Lanes'. Her soothing, velvety vocal and her pure love towards making music that is not overproduced and focuses on triggering out emotions while you listen to is, has proven to be a real success formula for worldwide exposure.
'Poor heart' is taken of the amazingly good album - 'Chapters', and what seems to be unusual is that it is a bonus track, which was chosen to be visualized and promoted as a proper single.
The music video was directed by Raul Sanches and it is more a short film than a typical music video. Yes, the form seems to be trending right now, but unlike Beyonce's 'Lemonade', Yuna's 'Chapters' videos seems to come packed with a narrative that actually means a lot more than a staged 'deep conversation'.
My poor, poor heart
I remember when you red
Now you're tough
Slowly turning into black
I know you never make a sound
Require in my hollow chest
When I yell at someone
You're louder than a breaking glass
But I'll never give up
Never giving up
Giving you up for love
The song is a mix of pop, R&B, electronic and atmospheric elements. Written by Yuna, Brian Warfield and Mac Robinson, the song actually is a tribute to a human's heart (in a way). It is all about exhausting our hearts with romantic relationships that turn out into painful break-up, but at the end of the day no matter how heart-broken you are, your heart always has space for a bit more love.
Anyway, take a listen and check out the cool music video and let us know what you think.
