GeForce GTX 1080 - World's Most Powerful Graphics Card
Science & Tech / /
NVIDIA boasts with its latest models of graphics cards that are supposed to be ‘the most powerful graphics cards of today’s era’. The company introduced the latest flagship generation of graphics cards called GTX 1080 and the cheaper one GTX 1070. NVIDIA is going to present their Pascal GPU at GTC 2016, but we already have some hints on when precisely the manufacturer is going to launch these magnificent cards and it’s rumored to be May 2016.
Both graphics cards are powered by NVIDIA Pascal architecture and are 16nm FinFET based products. (Pascal is the name of the company’s upcoming GPU architecture which will not only deliver the best gaming performance, but it will also perform the best compute performance.)
With all of this, the cards are three times more efficient in terms of Maxwell architecture and furthermore, they are also smaller and have even 7.2 billion transistors.
The most advanced gaming graphics card ever created is the flagship GeForce GTX 1080 itself. This card will feature 2560 CUDA cores. The working cycle of these cores is 1607 MHz boost mode which can reach up to 1733 MHz.
Also it is very interesting that on this card you can make an overclock with the new GPU Boost 3.0.
The memory is the one of the biggest improvements, so this graphics card comes with 8GB GDDR5X memory and 256 -bit ‘bass’ memory. Another betterment of this card is that it is 20 to 25 percent faster than the previous flagship card Titan X and even 65 percent faster than the 980 graphics card.
GTX 1080 also has an advanced cooling system which is certainly more efficient than some previous models.
GTX 1070 graphics card is slightly weaker and it is also a 16nm FinFET based product. It comes with CUDA cores which so far it is not known how many, nor is known the working cycle of the embedded cores.
The GDDR5X memory is replaced with GDDR5 memory with 8GB. This card is also a 16nm FinFET based product.
What is likely to be a pleasant surprise is that the cards are much cheaper than the cards that have had similar performances.
So GTX 1080 will cost $ 600 or $ 700 if the card comes from Nvidia, and the weaker GTX 1070 which is still more powerful than Titan X will come to 380 or 450 dollars. Good news is that the current cards will be much cheaper now so the cost of the minimum configuration for VR-ready PCs will decrease.
